Interview: Entertainment 09, September 2008
Notes: Tell us a little about how the band has progressed through the years. Who are original members and how did the newer ones come to be in the band?
Barry: Initially, the band started out as a project that Trey (singer) and I had decided to start after the band we had met and played in no longer held our creative and musical ideas… since then, we have gone through multiple line-ups…the current line-up has been together for two years…
Notes: I understand you have been touring the East Coast and are getting ready to play some shows in California. How has that been going for you? Have you been getting the reception you expected?
Barry: The East Coast tours have really been great for us, most recently in New York and Philly. People are really receptive and into what we do, and the scene is just much more alive there. We’ve had requests for a West Coast tour in the past and are really excited about finally being able to get out there in late September!
Notes: More on the topic of your album, where was Gender recorded?
Barry: Gender was recorded and mixed primarily in two locations; a studio in Atlanta, which was apparently frequented by Elvis back in the day (maybe even still today), and in Trey’s basement in Athens….apparently, also haunted!
Notes: You released Patroness as a single. What drove your decision to re-record it for this album?
Barry: Correct, Patroness was first recorded as a 7” release through the now defunct Luminal Label, with Cold Fraction as the b-side, and as strong as the recording was, we just felt it needed to be revisited and re-interpreted. The new interpretation just seemed to coalesce more with the theme of Gender and we decided to include it.
Notes: Are there any other songs you’d like to revisit?
Barry: We are in the process of re-recording a few tracks from our original demo for the upcoming second album, most likely Dreaming of You as well as a song called Wasteland, which is the b-side of a 12” release we did a few years back with Canadian band A Spectre is Haunting Europe..
